Sometimes, but it's not a good idea. They are wild and unless you have one from when it's very young, I wouldn't recomend it. But, on the other hand, you could try to invite a squrill to be your pet by slowly day after day leaving tiny bits of cereal (I used Cap'N Crunch) in a spot where it would come, then one day, the squrrel could actually learn to take the cereal from your hand, then you would have a wild animal as a pet. Just don't let it into your home. Remember, no sudden moves, and be cautious. It COULD bite you - then you'd be in trouble.

Some people keep them as pets, but this is not a good idea. They are wild animals and need LOTS of space to exercise. They can become aggressive as they mature. The ones I've seen kept in cages develop health and behavior problems sooner or later.

In a word, no.
Wild animals are not pets. Squirrels bite...hard.

Flying squirrels can be bought for pets. Also sugargliders, which aren't squirrels, but resemble the flying squirrel.

Not legally. I have one I call a pet, but really she lives outside, stays outside, and I just feed her and she is mostly tame, but I don't play with her or pick her up and hold her. My m-i-l feeds about a dozen at her house, but that makes sense, because she is pretty squirrely anyways!
