from what i remember (11 months ago) i was on my back with my knees pulled up as far as the would go (like in the movies) and then pushed hard to explain but your body with know what to do, similar to going number 2 but not quite. don't spend a lot of energy yelling during the pushing use all your energy to get the baby out. natural during labor is the hard part, once you get to push it actually feels good becuase you are finally getting to do something and i didn't think the contractions hurt while i was pushing. i took a class but totally forgot how to do the breathing once i was in labor and kept holding my breath (totally wrong) the nurses will help you with everything don't worry

I had a natural birth not by choice but because the doctors took too long to come in and examine me, but really wasn't that bad. I thought it was going to be worse. There is really no certain thing to do when you push, you just push like you have to have a bowel movement. That is the only way I can describe it. I am not going to lie it is painful, you feel like you have the worse cramps in the world but right after the baby is delivered all that pain goes away. I mean you feel sore and a little crampy but nothing like before plus it is worth it after you see your little darling!!!! Good Luck to You!!! I hope this helped a little.

I've had 2 natural drug free births and when its time to push it just comes naturally. Some how you just know. I never had any pre natal classes and I think it helps to go in blind as you have no pre concieved ideas. However, if it gets too much, don't feel guilty in asking for pain relief etc. And remember after all..... you get a beautiful baby at the end!

You do what feels natural and go with what your body is doing. You will feel the contractions every 3 minutes then you will know when to push. It will be very natural. Unless you do an epidural, then I don't know a whole lot since I've had two natural births. I think they tell you when the contractions are coming by the monitor, then they tell you when to push.

The nurse in the hospital will explain it all to you. She will be watching your contractions, and tell you when to push. She will probably count for you too. As far as the actual pushing is concerned, just push the same way you do when moving your bowels. Good luck with the natural birth, however epidurals are great!

I have two little boys and it's not easy. Don't get me wrong, it's not as bad as people think (sometimes), but I heard the easiest way to give birth is by being on all fours. I don't know how true it is, but natural birth won't be an option when that first contraction hits. Good luck.

I didnt take no child birth classes, and i pushed perfect for my first child. the doc said it would of been out in 15 minutes if it wasnt for his my pelvic bone being narrow. What I did was watch alot of child birth videos on tv. Just pretend that you have a bowel movement. take a deep breathe, and hold it in when u push. Dont concentrate on nothing else but pushing.
Good luck!

I was pretty much given directions on how to push at the time - pull your legs up and hang onto the backs of your knees, curl yourself up around your belly, take a deep breath, push with contractions, to about a 10 count, as many times as you can until the contraction stops. Once you get to the pushing stage, your body pretty much takes over and MAKES you push anyway, whether you want to or not.

Just make sure someone's standing nearby with a basin in case you push so hard that you puke!

OK...as obnoxious as this sounds...when you go to push....push like you are having a BM.(you don't want to push from your belly it has to be much lower)As soon as you get the go ahead from the nurse You will want to push as soon as you feel a contraction come on in doing so take a big breath hold it while pushing and let it out when you can't hold it anymore. ( don't worry too much about breathing!..I promise you will breathe!)

Something else to think about...you can be in many positions to push and believe or not the least effective way is in a bed flat on your back! My nurses actually broke the bed and put this bar up(resembled a roll bar like the one in my jeep) she then tied a bed sheet around it and on each contraction I put my feet up on the bar and essentially played played tug o war with myself!..If time #2 comes around I will do it exactly the same!

Good Luck!..Sonja

i didn't take childbirth classes i just read alot ALOT! and watched alot of a baby story, bringing home baby, and childbirth things on discovery. i do remember feeling like i had to take an enormous poop! no one had to tell me how to push because i just went on instinct like i was using the bathroom! it helps if you have someone beside you holding your head to your chest and two other people holding each leg it helps you bare down easier im not a big fan of stirrups
