A couple of things that were missed from your question. Correct, the is NO reviving old gas. If you did not use a fuel stabilizer and it is over 30 days old, use it in your lawn mower.
If you try it you will damage the motor internally. The fuel burn rate will increase and cause detonation and damage the pistons. Run it long enough (if it did not seize) you will also damage the block.
Old fuel that is allowed to stay in the fuel system will clogged the carbs passage ways, filters and require a lot of cleaning of the fuel system.
Carbon guard, is ok. I prefer Quick Clean from Mercury or ring free from Yamaha.

DUMP IT, USE IT IN THE LAWN MOWER, DON'T USE IT

Always start with fresh fuel (with any engine). Fuel sours (or gets varnishy in time, and water collects from condensation.

Probably the number # 1 reason for 50% of all outboard repairs

The fuel is so bad now, that you should use the "Carbon Guard" additive to your fuel mix. The stuff is cheap, 1 0z treats 8 gallons, it will increase motor life. I started using it (as recommended by a number of boaters), I pulled out my plugs, to check, and they looked brand new !

If the gas has been sitting in the tank for the winter, or longer and has a bad odor, it's most likely it has turned to lacker, it's old and should be removed and replaced with fresh clean fuel. You may wanna flush the fuel lines too and replace the fuel filter. After cleaning, use a fuel stablizer when not in use.
