well it depends if you jsut wnat some mellow background as you ponder or if you want something to bring you out of that mode. If you wanna come out of it then something more upbeat that your likly to start singing along with. If you want something mellow then some softer music or classical, maybe even some jazz.

Any kind of country really, it's just got that tune to it. Blues, jazz, classic... some songs could be -
Picture - Kid Rock and Sheryl Crow
Cold and Empty - Kid Rock
Hotel California, Desperado - The Eagles
When The Stars Go Blue - Tim McGraw
I Love You This Much - Jimmy Wayne
Three Wooden Crosses - Randy Travis
Hey You - Pink Floyd
Hey Jude - The Beatles
Imagine - John Lennon
Stairway To Heaven - Led Zeppelin
Have You Forgotten - Darryl Worley
Who You'd Be Today - Kenny Chesney
...and for the mentally sound, you could try going psychadelic and take a trip to the 60's with
White Rabbit by Jefferson Airplane which is also a good song.
Happy music might just depress you more...hope you aren't depressed. We need happy people to keep Yahoo! Answers funny with interesting questions as well as informal ones! ;)

The best music NOT to play is anything sad. Dance music is good. Showtunes, maybe. Something with lots of horns, like early Chicago or Blood, Sweat and Tears.

the best music is the one that makes you sad so you can have time to grieve. then stop listening after crying your heart out for a week end and start listening to pop/ dance music so it can bring back your soul.....

I like a lot of alternative. You could choose several depending on the severity of the sadness.
-Mazy Starr-Fade into you
-Enya-anything by them
-A Perfect Circle-The Noose
-U2-One, With or WIthout you, a lot of the slower U2 songs
-Sting
-Bryan Adams.
I can go on for days.......

None, because you will always associate the songs you listen to with being sad...but if you must listen to some music, just listen to some classical in a minor key.... depressing as hell and will fit your mood perfectly! :)

I like to listen to love songs but I was told not to drown myself in that type of music, so I don't do it anymore. It helps to keep you upbeat by listening to rock, pop, and country with a tempo.......
