the enormous expenses incurred in the aftermath of yesterdays thwarted attempts to blow up aircraft...Have the terrorists actually succeeded in what they were trying to do?

I'm not sure the main aim was to change our habits, values or customs. I think the pretension was to strike fear into the world and to decimate global industry, and if at all possible to kill as many Westerners as possible. That our habits, values and customs have changed is peripheral to their goals.

With gas prices soaring high and people fearing to travel via plane or train, the terrorists have managed to immobilize a large segment of the world population.

Though they have managed to cause a little disruption to airport security they are far from achieving their main objective and hopefully they wouldn't.

if thier whole goal was to keep us from carrying crap on planes then it has succeeded. however i don't think that was thier main goal.
