The answer is very simple - labor in China is very very cheap by U.S. standards not only because one U.S. dollar is worth 8 yuan, but also because wages in China are relatively low (1000 yuan - $125 - is a decent wage for a month). However, contrary to what everyone seems to think, the quality of goods manufactured in China aren't lower quality than goods manufactured elsewhere - if that were true, then companies wouldn't dare go overseas. In fact, most of everything that you use today likely was made in China. That doesn't just mean your clothing or your plates or bowls, but it means the microchips in your computer, your hard drive, your watch, and many other electronics. The fact that many U.S. electronics companies import parts from China is unfair, in many people's minds. After all, how can you compete with a country where labor is cheap, costs are low, and people are plentiful? Yet, as companies continue to move their manufacturing plants overseas, China has become the world's fastest growing economy.

Unfortunately, many people in the Third World are willing to work for less, simply because their government or society does not permit them any other job. Many businesses take advantage of this by taking their business to China, as well as other countries.
Two other major factors are:
1.Southeast Asians generally have a higher work ethic because they can't take anything for granted
2. Another (much less) factor is ignorance on the worker's side of the currency exchange rate.
I hope to answer more questions!

because China has cheap labor and the U.S. and China have a very favorable trade agreement which results in the U.S. market in being flooded with cheap goods from China. It probably also means your wearing cheap clothes and not Italian designers!!!
