Because the NFL has been built around its stars. Montana, Favre, Brady, Manning, etc. If you look back thru the years, "Dynamic" players are beset with the superbowl ring before the season starts. I live in INDY and believe that Manning will go thru "Marino-itis" his whole career. "this year will be the 'big one' for him". I dont think he will ever win the SB. It all surrounds what actually makes the nfl great. The Hype built around the season is what make Fantasy Football great as well. Fans need it and love it and its like Dogracing- Everyone bets on THEIR favorites...not THE FAVORITE. The team that has the best chance at a superbowl this year is Carolina, Eagles, Denver, Indy. Not because of the hype but the CONSISTENCY. Very little change to the scheme. Rank-wise:
1Carolina- added a sure WR in K. johnson to take 2x team off S.Smith. no other changes
2.Denver- Nothing changes from last years scheme in the sense that the players change, the scheme doesnt.
3.Eagles- Only loss is T.O... Not a loss, as much as a refocus on what counts.
4. INDY- Big LOSS in E. James. I watched J.Addai and he has a way to go. Maybe RB by committee will work, but nothing outside the Denver Metro area is very successful without a Strong #1 running back at the helm. Peyton will not get the time he is used to if his backs cant clear the backfield consistenly. Teams will start playing the pass as the run game isnt effective, thus leading to turnovers and sacks/knockdowns, which will F#@$ up a QBs gameplan pretty quickly. Manning leads this team, and at this point in his career he doesnt have the same game in the 4th Q when down as he does in the 1st Q, if you know what I mean.

Probably because they are the best team in the league. Sure they lost edge but joseph addai is the same type of runner. And dominic rhodes proved he can carry the load when edge hurt his knee. Plus, with a top 3 offensive line in the NFL they should be able to grind out about 5 yards a carry, forcing D's to focus on the run and giving Peyton open receivers. And i'm pretty sure peyton has still been the top qb in the league since his 49 TD year. he did lead them to a 14-2 record, including starting out 13-0. Their young athletic defense is one year more experienced, and experience is everything in the NFL. Even without Thornton, they still have double-digit sacks guys in Mathis and Freeney, an All-Pro potential linebacker in Cato June, and All-Pro potential cornerback in Nick Harper (assuming his wife doesn't stab him in the knee), and an up-and-coming challenger to the second cornerback spot, Marlin Jackson, the best cornerback from Michigan sice Woodson. This is one of the fastest D's in the NFL, and Dungy uses that to his great advantage. Last year Manning got over his playoff jitters, he just had to shake off the rust of not playing in a game for 4 weeks (including the playoff bye). He had an amazing 2nd half and put the Colts in position to win, but they couldn't pull it out. This year, Dungy won't make the same mistake of having him take 4 weeks off. Manning is a gamer, he spends hours upon hours in the film room studying, and won't settle for anything less than the Super Bowl. The entire team revolves around him, and with his small taste of playoff success the last few years, he will finally bring this team over the hump.

They were very good last year. Many think they were one play away from winning against the Steelers in the playoffs last year and of course the Steelers won the SB. However, if you look at Peyton Mannings history in big games, you find he has been largely unsuccessful at Tennessee and Indy as a pro. His numbers are gaudy and yes, he has a great arm, but whether he was playing Steve Spurrier's Florida Gators or Bill Belichick's New England Patriots, his record is poor. Will Indy be good? absolutely. Will Manning have good stats? absolutely. Will Indy win the SB? Maybe, but I would not give them better than a 50-50 chance of winning the AFC to make the SB this year.

The Colts are not going to win the Super Bowl. Here is the reasons why: Suspect defense, no Edgerrin James, and Payton Manning is the biggest choke of a QB in the history of the League. Tell Payton that he is playing in a playoff game and he clams up like someone on withdrawals. LOL
His brother in New York is shaping up to be of the same mold. LOL

The colts will still do good, but where did you here people say they'd win? All I've heard is people riding the Panthers' jock. I'm glad Smith got hurt durring training camp and hope it affects his performance so people who know **** about football will stop saying he's the best WR in league (or even top 5 is wrong).....I lost all respect for the Madden series when I saw they rated Moss, Owens, Harrison, Holt, 85, and Smith all 97...

There's no denying destiny. Tony Dungy and Peyton Manning have walked a long road with a lot of heartache to get to this point. It will take more than the Bears to get them to walk down "Heartache Road" again. Colts 30 Bears 16 The Colts simply have to much fire power for the Bears to contain and match point for point in 4 quarters of play.

because they did go 14-2 last year. Plain and simple, edge was the man, but the offese revolves around manning
and they have Domonic rhodes who put up 1000+ yards in 10 games his rookie year when edge was hurt, and they drafted another rookie back this year, they're set, and if Freeney can keep giving pressure, their de will be aight.

There is still a carry-over factor from the previous year (despite Mr. James' departure).
We'll just have to see.
