I have my 17 week appt coming up at the beginning of September, and I really want to know the gender of my baby. Should I request an ultrasound or wait and request one for my visit in October ( I will be 21 weeks then)??? Just impatient. LOL
Thanks.

I do not believe that you can request a ultrasound so early in the pregnancy. I will be 7 months on tuesday, and if I am not mistaken, you will not recieve an ultrasound until around 20-21 weeks. You can ask.If the reason you want to request an ultrasound is to find out the sex of the baby, the organs are not fully devoloped until 4-5 months. I know how hard it is to wait, but be patient. Congrats

I wanted to know the sex of my babies to, as soon as possible. I did some searching on the internet for ultrasounds baby gneder in my area and found a private place near me. I paid about $90 and they put it on a dvd for me. Its great to have that memory. All the places that I contacted said I needed to be 15 weeks to tell the sex. And they were right I'm 31 weeks now and its still a boy and a girl. Good Luck.

I'm not postive on this but I thought that most places wouldn't do an ultrasound to determine the sex before 20 weeks. I suppose you could ask. Where I'm at they do a vaginal ultrasound in the early weeks of pregnancy and then do another no earlier than 20 weeks. We have no say in it.

you should have your big ultrasound appt coming up real soon where they measure the baby and check that everything is going as it should be and they can tell you the sex then if the baby is in the right position, otherwise i would beg for an ultrasound asap the suspense would be killing me. my dr had one in his office so he looked for me and was able to tell me the sex before my big ultrasound appt
one other thing, not all drs will make you wait i was friends with my dr and he let me have ultrasounds all the time

I would wait until 20 weeks, you have a better chance of seeing the sex of the baby. They tried at 18 weeks with me (the tech messed up the schedule and did my level 2 u/s 2 weeks early) and we couldn't see the sex clearly.
They can usually find out at 17 weeks, but some practices will wait until you are closer to 20 weeks. I assume this is your only u/s you will get.
Good luck

I had an appointment for my 16 week check up and they scheduled an ultrasound for 18 weeks. Then I went back at 20 weeks for my regular appointment. What I am trying to say is your dr may schedule you a seperate appointment specifically for an ultrasound.
Good Luck and Congratulations!

You should ask for one at your next appointment because it is possible to see the gender at as little at 16 weeks...It really depends on how the baby is laying and positioned.
My friend is 18 weeks and just found out she is having a boy

You can ask when your ultrasound will be. It seems to be standard practice these days for pregnant women to have at least two ultrasounds, and one of yours should be coming up soon.
