It depends on the type of banjo.

Four Strings:
Tenor banjos, plectrum banjos and banjo ukuleles.

Tenor banjos have four strings and are usually tuned in fifths.

Plectrum banjos have four strings and are usually tuned to standard C or an open tuning.

Tenor and plectrum banjos are similar - but the tenor has a shorter scale, and, as a result, is tuned to a higher pitch.

Ukulele banjos are tuned and played exactly like a ukulele.

Five Strings:
The five-string banjo has four long strings and a short, high-pitched string.

Six Strings:
Six-string banjos are tuned and played exactly like a guitar

Seven Strings:
During the "parlor banjo" era (where well-to-do ladies would play complicated music on the banjo to entertain guests) there were a few seven-string banjos on the market. These were played like a five-string banjo, but had two additional bass strings.

Twelve Strings:
The twelve-string banjo is tuned and played like a twelve string guitar.

Well before Bluegrass became so popular and the television "Hee Haw" show, banjos were primarily a four-stringed instrument. The most famous banjoist of the early 1920s and 1930s was Eddie Peabody.

Now, five-string banjos are the common sight, with the fifth string starting at the fifth fret, which name is G. This note matches the same position on a guitar's third fret, first string.

Usually, the five-string banjo is played best in the key of G with the tuning of (G) D, G, B, and E.

There are other tunings used so the formed chords would be different in shapes. The banjo is one of the few instruments not needing to be amplified unless it is used in large auditoriums.

What's more, it is America's only original musical instrument, coming into form from the rural South in the late 1800s.

There are 4 string banjos and 5 string banjos. 5 stringers have one shorter string on the neck.

sounds like the action's too low or you'll want a truss rod adjustment. tricky, pondering its a clean banjo and the neck is fairly bent. it truly is a probability to regulate it on your man or woman, yet if you discover your self actually not 100% confident what you're doing, deliver it in!!! heavily, you do not favor to regulate it your self except you're experienced.
