I was diagnosed with GBS while I was pregnant with our daughter. Nothing was ever said about me passing it on to my husband (and the docs kenw we were sexually active).

As for the baby... I was given one round of antibiotics when I was diagnosed. Once I went into labor, I was given two rounds of antibiotic by way of my I.V. I didn't get all the way through the second round before she was born.

Our daughter was tested for GBS, just in case. She passed the tests with flying colors.

So long as she listens to her docs, a woman with GBS and her baby should be fine.

GBS doesn't really do anything to adults; it's just a bacteria that sometimes lives down there, in women and men. The baby has such a weak immune system though, and the bacteria can get in through their eyes and stuff while they're being born,so you get antibiotics to prevent that. That's the only real problem with it.

I'm 31 wks pregnant with GBS. My doctor said I couldn't pass it on to my husband. But I could pass it on to my babies if I have a vaginal delivery without getting antibiotics before I deliver. It is passed vaginally - so if you were to have a c-section without treatment your babies would not get it. If you are positive for it, I'm sure they will treat you once you check in no matter what. Good Luck

I don't think so. It's not like it's an STD. It's not really even a medical condition. Being GBS+ just means the woman has Group B Strep bacteria. It's harmless to healthy adults.

gbs is naturally occuring in many women. you can't catch it, and you can't pass it on to your husband or your unborn baby. however, during a vaginal delivery you will need to have antibiotics to prevent it being passed on to your baby during delivery. many many women have have gbs and give birth to perfectly healthy babies thanks to antibiotics. good luck!
