It really does vary from woman to woman, and your mother's or sister's experience may not be yours. On average, expect to still look 4-5 months pregnant immediately after giving birth. After about 6 weeks, as someone else said, you will pretty much be left with what you need to work on. Breastfeeding helps the uterus contract and go down more quickly and is totally the best for the baby, so I do reccommend it....but you do need to eat pretty well and keep your calorie intake up...so you may keep on a few extra pounds while breastfeeding.

Also, some women, like myself, get a lot of stretch marks (my mother and sister did not). I have 3 kids and one on the way, and I have always lost all my baby weight but stretch marks have to do with the amount of elastic in your skin, and you are born with a good amount of it or not...no lotion would have helped me. Between the stretch marks and the stretched skin that never did bounce all the way back, a woman may end up with quite a "pooch." I'm not trying to discourage you, I'm just letting you know about possible issues that I wish someone had told me about.

Good luck!

Ok, start over.... Do you basically trust this woman and feel that she has your son's best interest at heart? Do you think that this big a scare will shock her into realizing the implications of her actions? Do you feel that you can depend on her word if she promises to follow a list of rules from you (and yes, staying with the baby is a good start!). Answer those questions and you will be able to make the decision. She may have asked you if she 'did the right thing' because she wanted you to recognize that she tried to take the right course of action and maybe she was second guessing that she should have called 911. But also consider that accidents do happen and even with moms who are attentive. I once sat my daughter on the toilet seat lid when she was about 18 mons old while I was helping her sister brush teeth. She was fine but suddenly slid off and banged her head on the tub and there was an instant bruise and bump. I felt horrible and that really jolted me on safety. If you do trust grandma, then give her another chance with a list of rules. If you do not trust her or always will be worried sick, then no, you are doing the right thing.

Honestly each woman is differant and it depends on your body type and how much wieght you gained during prenancy and if you exercize I am still bigger than I was when I became pregnant the first time and that was twenty years ago.I have three children and well a size 10 I will never be a 12-14 isn't so bad. Don't be hard on your self just exercise and eat right, and if you are a new Mom don't forget sleep is important too!!

Mine's still swollen at 6 weeks, but I had a c-section. This is one of those things that varies greatly from woman to woman. The sooner you can start doing some post-partum abdominal exercises, the sooner your stomach can start getting back to normal - but be aware the skin may stay stretched.

depends upon the person. i went home 4 days after and only had a little pudgy. i was able to wear street cloths i hadn't worn in 5 months. but then I was actually underweight when i gave birth.

just plan on getting up and about as soon as the doc says you can. don't over do it. take your time and it will get back to normal. look at those super models and how they have 3 kids and are still on the cover of magazines. all they do is exercise.

Some goes away naturally but the rest you have to work off. Walking for about 30 minuites a day really helps. Your skin will bounce back in time. Just use plenty of moisturizing cream and the like.

Usually by six weeks you know what you've got to contend with. It's not really swollen, but stretched (more than we ever thought possible!) Any fluid rentention from pregnancy should resolve by this time, too.

Happy Mothering!

It depends on your body. Breastfeeding definitely reduces your body weight & makes the uterus contract more quickly. I went back to less than my normal body weight within 9 months. (Nobody told me I had to take in extra calories for breastfeeding). However, after I immediately gave birth, I still looked pregnant. Talk to your doctor about weight questions & your health. Best of Luck!
