Over the last few years, I think the news has intended to make people paranoid. Last night, my local news dedicated most of the hour to the 'alleged' 'attempted' UK plane hijackings...that's somewhat understandable....but the disturbing thing was that the news station had created a special graphic banner that showed up after each commercial that read 'terrorist attack foiled' and it was accompanied for at least thirty seconds by freshly composed ominous music that their in-house composer must have prepared especially for the news cast. It was a weird way to report the news. Definitely designed for a fearful response. Does it work? Yes, it probably does. The telling of news is a business,...not a public service. Perhaps it once was public service but those days are long gone.
To make people watch the news, the message has to invoke interest. A person who is scared by a story is more likely to tune in to see the rest of the story..hence repeated and better ratings....equals more money....better business....

When I was a kid I did so many things that were of a carefree nature. Had I done half of what I did as a kid today either my parents would have been arrested for negligence or I would have been taken away to be protected by the authorities. I had a great childhood though. I feel sorry for the children and parents today who have so much fear instilled in them from 'reliable' sources such as the 'media'.

Everyone is different and I'm sure the events in the news effects each one of us in many ways. Paranoia is not only possible but probable in many especially the elderly. Many oldsters are frightened and are becoming reclusive because of the fear which is promoted by the media. There are others who are not stable or mentally healthy that may feel the effects of fear and paranoia.

Then, there are those who are angry and stronger. They should set an example and let all know that we as a collective unit will care for those who are afraid and we will not bow to threats or negotiate with terrorists. I refuse to change my life because of threats and media speculation. Hope I'm in the majority.

I think that paranoid is a way of coping, undeniably a horrible way to feel inside. but the news broadcasts are for general info on the main news occurrences of the time. no the news just remindes me why i left hawthorn L>A> CA, in 1994 and moved to Minnesota.

I think that the news media works really hard to make us paranoid with their stories about how to escape from drowning cars, additives in our foods, and what's in your water. They are going to make all of us worry ourselves to death!

NO! I think that it makes us informed. At least we know who's coming after us and we can prepare ourselves for this next world war that we are heading for.
