I am looking to patent an idea, but would like to know the process, and if it is better to patent in canada or the US.

It is not possible to protect ideas but rather the representation of that idea.

As far as which country is best, I recommend contacting a patent attorney. You'll want to speak to someone who's versed in this area of law AND is fully aware of all of the details of your situation.
