First, two countries cannot be in a single civil war. Second, Israel isn't attacking Lebanon. They're attacking Hezbollah (a terrorist organization) that is hiding in Lebanon.
But the short answer is that Hezbollah (the bad guys) have vowed to wipe Israel off the face of the map. Israel (we'll call them the good guys for this story) doesn't want that to happen.
Hezbollah controls most of southern Lebanon, and the Lebanese government hasn't done anything to stop Hezbollah from attacking Israel over the past several decades. Despite UN directives the Lebanon disarm Hezbollah, which Lebanon has ignored.
Roughly a month ago, Hezbollah killed some Israeli soldiers, kidnapped others, and have been firing thousands of rockets at Israeli cities. Israel doesn't like that and is fighting back, because nobody else will stop Hezbollah.

The USA had the idea to make Lebanon the Palestinian homeland. But to do this the Christian's needed to be relocated. The Muslims liked the idea but the Christians did not. That is what started the war between Christians and the PLO. It should be noted that before this Christians, Muslims and Jews got along fine in Lebanon.

1) A civil war occurs within one country. Otherwise, it's just a regular war.
2) Hezbollah terrorists abducted 2 Israeli soldiers. Note: Hezbollah also is part of the Lebanese government. When Israel went to recover them, Hez launched rockets at Israel. Israel is removing this threat.
