Yes. My son (who will turn 21 next week btw) breastfed for many months after I had a C-section.

They only cut you open during surgery. They don't dry up your milk tanks *grin*

Breastfeeding and C-sections are 2 separate things. The meds from the c-section wear off and you are just fine to breastfeed.

yes a woman can breastfeed after a c-section, just be careful with pain medications, its absolutely normal for a woman to breastfeed after a c-section, just make sure that the baby isnt directly on your {c-section site} b/c it will be very uncomfortable for the both of you! make sure its comfy for you and go ahead!

Definitely. Mothers who have eagerly anticipated a vaginal birth may feel disappointed and inadequate because their expectations haven’t been met, and they may even be afraid that because they “failed” at giving birth, they may also “fail” at breastfeeding. These concerns are unfounded, because there is no reason that nursing can’t be successful for the mother who has had a c-section. Breastfeeding can help normalize the experience of an operative birth.

Initiation of breastfeeding is often delayed, because mothers who have delivered via c-section often need some extra time to recover before they physically feel like holding and nursing their new baby. As soon as they are fully conscious and alert and able to hold the baby, they can begin breastfeeding.

Nursing as soon as possible after birth has advantages for mothers who have had cesareans just as it does for mothers who deliver vaginally. There is an extra advantage for the cesarean mother: nursing during the brief period of time before the regional anesthetic wears off provides a time of pain-free, more comfortable nursing during the baby’s first feedings at the breast.

Of course! Why shouldn't she?

To the person that says if the doctor says so..why should the doctor say so? A mother is a mother and she can breastfeed her baby whether she has her baby naturally or c section.

Of course. After a c-section though, you're hurting and tired, but it's comforting to breastfeed and be with your baby.

Yes, you can. I was told that it takes longer for the milk to come in after a c-sec or induction but I found that untrue after my induction. Go ahead and breastfeed - I hope you and your baby enjoy the experience.
