Well this is really bad.
Your daughter being 17 years old, and if she has a cholesterol level of 305, that's alot.
Let me tell you, there are levels in which you can see the cholesterol if it's high or normal; I make you a chart:
1. Less Than 200: This level is excellent for the body seeing that it's at the correct level and it's normal which she's at a low risk of having a heart disease.
2. From 200 to 239: This level is considerate as Borderline High, in which you're at a Regular high risk of having a heart disease.
At this level, you need to take care of yourself, do not eat too much fatty foods, and high cholesterol foods, and change lifestyle; (Exercise, diet and high physical activity)
3. From 240 and up: This level is the worst of all, this level means that you're at a Really High risk of developing a heart disease, such as Atherosclerosis, Coronary Heart Disease, Pheriperal Artery Disease and others.
What you are telling is that your daughter is at the level of 305, which she surpass the level of 240 (which is the highest and the worst) She is in really high supreme risk of having a heart disease.
What you need to do is, talk to your daughter about this situation and perhaps she will understand it at all.
Here it's a list of things what needs to do:
1. Change Diet: She needs to cut down all the fatty foods, high fat, carbs, cholesterol foods. Don't eat too much satured fat and most of all Trans Fat; She needs to start to eat healthy food like, whole grains, vegetables, fruits, fish, high fiber foods, and some more.
And i want to tell you that the Monounsaturated Fat; is the best fat to cut down all the bad cholesterol. So you can find this type of fat in the Olive Oil, Canola Oil, and peanuts, pecans, almonds etc.
Here is a link to help you: http://www.annecollins.com/low-cholesterol-diet.htm
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arteriosclerosis
2. Exercise and Physical Activity: Your daughter needs to start an exercise plan; she can go to a gym (best option) and start for 1 hour of exercise daily for 3 or 4 days every week; this will help to reduce the levels of cholesterol and the she will feel better, if you don't have a gym, she can start jogging every day for 45 minutes or 1 hour... this will also help alot.
3. Be active: I don't mean in a way of exercise or physical activity; it's be active or busy; doing homeworks, chores, keep her busy... when people isn't busy, they start eating; and she probably eat fatty foods... so be careful in that way.
After this, she will start feeling better; after 15 days maybe... after she's done with all this; check her cholesterol either with a blood test, or those medical kits that they sell at Target; which also you can check your cholesterol they are usually around $13.
And also; I wanted to tell you that in the nutrition guide there is a limit of what you may eat daily, it depends on your calories needs.
Here is the list:
For 2,000 Calories 2,500
Total Fat: Less than 65g < 80g
Saturated Fat: < 20g < 25g
Cholesterol: < 300mg < 300mg
Sodium: < 2,400mg < 2,400 mg
Total Carbs.: < 300g < 375g
Dietary Fiber: 25g 30g
In her case it will be the 2,500 calories; but in her condition of high cholesterol she needs to cut the half of that; so instead of consuming 80g of fat, she needs 40g or less, satured fat; instead of 25g; 12.5g of sat. fat; and with eveything of those; except of Dietary Fiber; which she can take the 30 grams exactly... or even more the better.
Well; I hope this has helpes you in everything; good luck with everything, And I hope that your daughter will be better, in the next month; and if you need anything e-mail me...
Good luck; here are some links to further help:

There are three things that regulate what the cholesterol tests.
HDL -- High Density Lipids
HDL's are the 'good' cholesterol -- these are created by our liver -- they help in the preventio of heart diseases -- the more active a person is -- the more elevated the HDL's are
LDL -- Low Density Lipids
LDL's are bad cholesterols. These can build up in the heart and lead to potentially fatal attacks, changes in physiology, and other disease processes. These come from animal sources
Triglycerides -- Sugars (of a sort)
Triglycerides come from sugary junk foods, and sometimes from fruits and vegetables -- an elevated trigliceride level can cause a high cholesterol reading.
The treatment plan for your daughter's cholesterol would depend upon which levels were elevated.
There is a possiblity that she ate before the test -- which would definitely cause an increase in her cholesterol levels. It is recommended that fasting for 12 hours be undertaken prior to a lipid profile . . . if she failed to fast for 12 hours (with the exception of water) then her test results could be wrong.
If her HDL's are high -- I'm not really sure what to do -- you'll have to talk to the doctor.
If her LDL's are high -- she needs to decrease the animal products she consumes -- limit meats to no more than two or three servings of four ounces each, daily. Decrease the frequency of those meats higher in fats (beef, pork). Also limit intake of substances such as butter, ice cream, and other dairy products. Fried foods such as french-fryes, onion-rings, and cheese-sticks can also greatly increase the LDL levels.
If her triglycerides are high -- she should aviod the little debbie's snack cakes, and other fattening foods of the sort.
Supplementation with garlic has proven clinically effective in reducing cholesterol levels -- as has supplementation with a B-Vitamin . . . I believe it is either niacin or nicotinamide -- either way, a solid B-Complex twice a day will help, as well.
These products can be ordered for decent prices online at either http://www.puritainspride.com or http://www.swansonsvitamins.com
Good Luck!

Try feeding her oatmeal for breakfast. Use margarine instead of butter. Of course it may be hereditary. The way I eat my cholesterol should be off the charts but it is usually around 130. My girlfriend has high cholesterol despite eating a proper diet and she has to take medications to keep it down. You didn't mention what her cholesterol ratio was. The difference between the good cholesterol and the bad cholesterol. My doctor told me that the cholesterol ratio was more important than the total. He said a 3 to 1 ratio was good and a 5 to 1 ratio was bad. He said something about triglycerides too.

She might have a condition where her body makes too much cholesterol- my cousin's husband has that problem. He restricts all his meat products, which is the other source of cholesterol. By eliminating most meat products, he's able to keep most of the bad cholesterol at bay and keep his number low enough to stay healthy. Before you turn her into a vegan, though, she should be examined by a doctor and all the details of a major diet change should be discussed. She's young and will need supplements in order to maintain healthy levels of vitamins and minerals her body really needs right now.

it's probably in her genes. My husband who is very young has cholesterol. His whole maternal family has it and they are all tall and ultra thin!
The best way to do it is eat garlic (fresh or tablets, but fresh is cheaper) first thing in the morning. Wash it down with a glass of water. Green tea is also very good with a spritz of lime juice and honey as a sweetener. Give her fresh warm(not the instant kind) oatmeal for breakfast. This really lowers it. Freshly ground flax seeds sprinkled into foods help as well. Apple cider vinegar in warm water in the morning is helpful too. Change your milk to the non-fat kind or at least 1%...do the same to all the dairy products. Omit all the fried stuff. Cut out takeout and restaurant food. Drink lots of water. Lots of veggies and fruits. Switch to whole grains (bread, rice, flour, etc) And most importantly walk (or exercise) everyday for at least an hour.
Do this religiously for several months (and eventually for life). Get her blood tested and I can almost guarantee that it will lower!

To reduce cholesterol you must change her diet! At 17, now that is a challenge!! Avoid beef, pork, any preserved meats, rather eat fruits and vegies and lean chicken or fish. Adsolutely no fried foods!! No cheese, milk shakes, and even those foods with a lot of sugars (corn syrup) as they can be converted into fats inside the body! Exercise will help too! Again, it is a life style change that you must talk to her! Best wishes.

One doesn't have to be overweight to have high cholesterol. Apple cider vinegar is a great natural remedy - two tablespoons in a glass of very warm water with some honey every morning before having anything else. Also flax seed - one tbsp ground up mixed in a glass of orange juice, in yoghurt, or sprinkled on salads. Eat lots of fruit and vegatables and exercise. Good luck.

well, cholesterol level can be lowered if you just have the right discipline and if you just wanted to be treat.. accumulation of fatty acid in the body doesnt really seen basically on how you weigh but how does you feel with it.. We have natural method of preventing it, juicing vegetables and eating a lot of fruits will be the answers of your problem and! avoiding acidic foods... And also remember constipation is the mother and father of all diseases see to it that you have a good bowel movement in that case the acids in the body will be flushed out and replaced with alkaline... what tou eat is what your body gets...
