Law School requires a significant amount of reading and writing, so English provides a good background for that. Try to take classes that focus around Rhetoric, Writing, and Non-Fiction Prose. Creative Writing classes probably won't help you much (but they might be fun anyway). For your literature classes, the denser the material, the better. Shakespeare is probably better study material than modern lit, not because of quality, but because of the amount of focus it takes to read it.

One class you should take, though it's out of the English Dept. is Logic -- It will help you a lot on the LSAT exam.

Being an English major has another advantage. The most popular major for law school is Political Science followed by Business. Law Schools like diversity of majors in their entering classes, so English is something "different" and also completely credible as an undergrad major.

i'm a music substantial and enable me basically say, music majors can not minor- the time table is basically too problematic middle. colleges rigidity you into 12-14 classes in line with semester because of the fact maximum classes you need to take are in hassle-free terms a million credit, some 0! and prefer 2 of those are nicely worth 2 credit. you don't get gaps between classes and your days run 8AM-8pm right this moment with the aid of Mon-fri. Weekends you return and forth with your ensembles. Non-music majors would be in band and orchestra, you basically ought to audition

If your objective is law school, do whatever degree you think will give you the highest GPA. Do what comes easily, because GPA plays a huge factor in law school admissions. At the same time, law schools like to look at volunteer work and community service. If you choose a program that you find easy, you will have more time to devote to volunteer work.

I used to ask that years ago, but I would think it would be very useful for any profession that requires a lot of writing....that could include journalism, law, consulting of any sort..etc..

Just keep in mind you would need to get a graduate degreee...law or MBA perhaps, but they would compliment English well.

Why don't you talk to a guidance or career counselor at your college? That would be the best, smartest place to start - they have tons of resources for you to help with career decision making.

About the only thing I can think of would be to become a teacher.

Nothing, being a professional in English is useless because it is a waste of time when people could be spending their time curing cancer and AIDS instead of writing stuff.
