Is it safe to go to the shooting range if I'm 5 months pregnant? I haven't really read anything in my books about it. I figured the noise may make the baby jump around but I didn't want to damage the hearing or anything else. Does anyone have any info? Thanks!

I'd ask my doctor but its 9:30 pm and he's not in. Just trying to get some info before tomorrow to make my decision... I'm not so stupid that I wouldnt' check with a professional first!

One more thing, I already know how to shoot, very excellent. I just got a new gun and want to test it out.

I don't think that the noise would be able to penetrate your body, Not as a noise anyway! But I'm not a doctor!

Really depends on what you believe. A lot of people believe that the baby can hear sounds at certain stages of development, and it can affect them later in life.
Another issue is ventillation, especially if it's an indoor range, the Ventillation will definitely be an issue. Breathing in powder residue isn't the most healthy thing you can do. --- I would be more worried about the ventillation issues than anything else.
If it were my kid, I'd stay away from the range until the pregnancy is over with, but I'm a cautious kind of guy and would want to give my kid every chance possible to turn out normal. :)
Ultimately, I'd recommend against it, and I'm betting your Doctor will too.

I have a gun too and go to the shooting range, but not since I have been pregnant. I asked both the nurse and the docor and they said NO. The lead from bullets and in the air cause great harm to the baby. And the noise level is way to loud for them. I found a site online to that explained the decible levels of the gun and what a baby in a womb really hears. And it was really bad. As much as i want to go shooting with my husband, the safety of our babies our is much more important. Good Luck.

the big issue is breathing the lead and other bad chemical combinations caused by the ammo. That goes for gun cleaning chemicals as well. Lead and children, even unborn ones, are a deadly combination. I know it is an outdoor range, but there are still levels of toxins that will be inhaled and passed through the placenta.
OB doctors will advise against shooting while pregnant. Sound transmits better through fluid than air, and your baby's head is underwater right now, so sound is an issue.

From the world according to Dale, (who shoots guns) he said its okay that the noise wont bother your baby. I, Dales wife say it would be best to check with your doctor, because I know the babys do hear what goes on outside. I would share your concern that the sudden noise might be scarry. Remember you wear covers over your ears for protection. Also, the possibility of a mishap with the weapon, such as backfire, would the risk be worth it. Me?, I'd wait a few more months.....just to be safe.

The jury is still out regarding the damage to a fetus from the decibal level of a firing pistol. it appears that the damage is worse later in the pregnancy when the hearing is more refined. There also seems to be a problem relating to lead exposure. I know nothing about guns, but if the bullets or weapons contain lead, I would avoid this as well as lead exposure is dangerous.

I think you should go to the range and learn to shoot because today`s society is very screwed up and women today need some kind of protection

you never know? i was told that if you play a nice soothing song for the baby while he/she is still in the womb it helps them develop the brain and hearing, now imagine what the sound of the gun will do?????
