My PC does not work, not even from the windows installation CD. I can't start windows in any way. I'd need a command capable of fixing the problem without the need of starting windows. Please. I can't afford paying for it to be fixed!!!!

You cannot run scandisk from the command prompt unless you are still using Win3.1, 95, 98, or me. If you are using winnt, 2k, or xp try starting in safe mode (f8 at boot) then, after it boots into windows (hopefully) open a command prompt and run chkdsk. If it will not start from the windows cd then it sounds like your hard drive is history, otherwise you could reload windows over the present load to solve the usually unfixable problems.

If you can find out how to start up into your BIOS settings, usually by hitting either the "Del" key or the "F1" key as the computer powers up, you can change the boot sequence settings so that the computer first looks to the CD drive for boot-up commands. Once you get that done, put the Windows installation CD in the drive. Then reboot, and the pc should boot from that CD. From there you can re-install Windows, which it sounds like you're going to have to do.
