Since Shakespeare said it, we use this sentence so often, that sometimes we don't even know what we mean or what are the implications of our words.
According to some views of theater theory, almost every action that we perform in our every-day life can be understood as a performance. If we consider this idea to be true, then my answer is yes.
We are playing roles (that are forced on us by the period we live in, by the social context etc): that of a student, that of a child of our parents and parent of our child, a team member, a colleague...endless roles. Some chosen by us, some given.
Still, you need something opposed to what you define the stage. If all the world is a stage, you don't have such a thing. Where is the audience then?

At this stage, the world may seem to stage the presence of being a stage. But, who's acting? I mean are YOU totally genuine with everyone? I didn't think so. So...f-off jerkweed. Who the hell do you think you are asking such a dumbass question like that? Hell yes it's a stage! It's my stage. Now get off of it fartbag!

And we are merely players
Performers and portrayers
Each another's audience
Beyond the gilded cage
Da DaDADA DA DA DA ...dadadadada
Da Da DAA !!
Living in the Limelight
We are never so free
For those who wish to see
Those who wish to be
Must put aside the alienation
Get on with procrastination
The real relation
The underlying theme
Living in a fisheye lens
Stuck in the camera eye
I have no heart to lie
I can't pretend a stranger
Is a long awaited friend

Were all of Shakespeare's sonnets written to men? When I fart, do I not smell? When you act overly philosophical, do people not laugh at you?
