I would get it done by needle not by gun as it will shatter your cartlidge. I have 2 cartlide peircings and the 1st one was by gun, it took ages to heal and kept getting infected. The second one by needle, took 4 weeks to heal and I vow never to have anything peirced by gun again

Do not have your cartilage pierced with gun at the piercing place at the mall!!!!! Go to someone who is experienced with body piercings. It may cost more, but it is worth it. I gun damages your ear by punching a hole in it. You should not use that with a cartilage piercing. I needle is more precise and cuts through the cartilage. It will heal better. The gauge is the thickness of the post of the earring. An experienced piercer can advise you as to what size you may want.

I have three cartilage piercings and we did one with a needle and the other two we just poked the earring thru it. I've never heard anyone complaing about getting it done with the gun tho. If your just going to through a hoop in it the go for the smaller hole size for a piercing like an 18 or 20.

If you got it done with a gun, it was most likely done with a 18 to 20 gauge.
The gun is the worst method of piercing and can cause scar tissue. Basically gauge is the thickness of the post.
The thinner the gauge, the easier it is to rip out of your skin.
Think a thin wire through a piece of cheese.
If you get pierced with a needle at a piercing shop they pierce you with a 16 gauge or a 14 gauge. ( which is bigger, it goes backwards 16 is larger). It can take more stress.

guage refers to the thickness of the hoop or stud that they are piercing you with. for example, you can't get pierced with one that is super thin because the skin might just close around it. if you get super thick one, it doesn't look so pretty. but a guy might want a thicker one bc it looks more masculine or something.

i had two cartilage rings pierced with a gun, and one on the other ear done with a needle. i HIGHLY RECOMMEND getting it done w/ a needle. it heals so much faster and cleaner! go for the needle!

have fun! :)

basically you chose what size you want your whole to be i would go with a standard 18 or 16 try it out first and if you like and would like to get it stretch then you can stretch it later on... i have 3 in my cartilage i love em... good luck! oh ya the gun is usually 16

gauge is the size of your hoop or stud the smaller the number the bigger the size. 0 is bigger than 4 and it will restrict what size you get.
