I recommend you have the vehicle PROFESSIONALLY INSPECTED before making any commitment. It is a 8 year old car with almost 100 thousand miles on it. And it is a complex European vehicle.

It can cost you A LOT of money to fix anything that may be wrong with it. It is normal to assume, not everything is in pristine condition.

Most mechanic will spend 1 to 2 hours inspecting it and charge you his/her normal shop rate. There is a lot you can't see but he can once he puts it on the lift.

150 dollars you spent will reward you with thousands you won't have to spend. (or at least know what's wrong going in)

If the ad is online, it may not be legit. I usually see 98s going for at least twice that. One question: "auto manual transmission"? It's one or the other unless you're talking about a tiptronic... If it's legit, I'd grab it in a heart beat. Just make sure it has a clean title and the car was maintained well enough. Parts get very expensive... which is why I buy Audis and sell them before the warranty expires.

You MUST test drive it like crazy. I mean when you test drive it, listen carefully for weird sounds, and pay attention to how it feels. Test the brakes, acceleration, transmission. Look underneath at the frame for engine, or trans leaks. While under the car, check the backside of the brakes for fluid leaks. The car has A LOT of miles on it. Ask the owner if they replaced the timing belt. This is a biggy. What I would do, if you want my opinion, is use the $4000 as a big down payment on a little car, like a small Toyota. Not brand new, but a year or two old. This size down payment will make the monthly payments smaller, and build your credit rating.

I wouldn't say amazing. About normal price. Something that old, it really depends on when you drive it and see how it feels. Does everything operate smoothly? Any rattles and ticks?

Good but it sounds like a 'trap'. You know what I mean. Engine problems etc.
