Mollies like a lot of vegetable matter in their food. Tetra makes a special mollie food that has extra veggie in it. That is the best way to go.

Be careful adding "a few tablespoons of salt every 3-4 months" without doing your regular 25-30% water changes every week. The salt will build up and eventually kill the fish. Salt does not evaporate with the water that does.

When you physically take water out of the tank, add salt to the water you put back in at a ratio of one teaspoon of salt for each gallon of water for mollies. One tablespoon for each 5 gallons for other fish.

there is a fish food out there just for colorful fish, it is called Tetra Color. Fish also have good color when they are happy, well fed, and the water is just right. Most people don't know and they do not like to tell you at the pet store, that mollys (all mollys) are breckish water fish, they like a little aquarium salt in their water, but be careful not to add too much, a few tablespoons every 3-4 months will be good. If you have other fish with them, you might want to be careful, not all fish take to salty water, and you may kill the other fish!
