the earth is always turning like a merry-go-round. the sun stays in the same spot. So the sun light can not hit all of the earth at the same time because the earth is round. You could try an experiement using a ball (soccer, volley, beach, or even football) and use a flashlight or even a lamp in a dark room. ---you be able to see what I mean.
So as the earth turns the part of the earth farthest away from the sun doesn't get sunlight. So when its night for us the other side of the earth is day.

The Planet Earth Rotates around the sun, and then sun light only cover on side of the planet, and at night were on the side that the sun doesn't give of light to.

the earth, our planet, like the rest of planets on the solar system, are rounding de Sun.
Besides, the earth turn over herself.
The combination of the two movements, explains a great quantity of phenomena.
In this case, try to experiment the phenomena, with an orange, for instance, around a light. And you'll see how varies the light over the surface of the orange.
