After the umbilical cord falls off and all is well with that site, you can give her a bath. That was at about 2 weeks for my girls.

You should start giving the newborn a tub bath only after the umbilical cord falls off and the belly button has completely healed... this usually takes 3 days to 2 weeks.
Until the, just a damp wash cloth with very little baby wash. Rinse well with another damp wash cloth. Use 70% isporyl (rubbing) alcohol on the cord and what ever the hospital gave you for the belly button. If they didn't give you any thing then use a triple antibiotic such as Neosporin.
Keep the umbilical cord dry and keep the diaper and shirt away from it, to keep from catching on something and tearing off and irritation.
You shouldn't need to do much of anything else with it.
Good Luck!

Bathing in a baby tub is fine anytime after the umbilical cord falls off... they won't be ready for the big bath tub until they can sit up good with a bath ring or the like. Just make sure baby's head is well supported & you may want someone close by to help wrap the baby up afterwards because they are so slippery & squirmy:o) I recomment Johnson & Johnson's nightime bath because it has soothing oils & a calming scent for baby- it's wonderful to calm a screaming newborn!!

Both my son and my daughter had their first baths in the hospital, in an actual baby bath...no sponge baths. I was a little confused because I thought that you had to wait until the umbilical cord had healed, but they said that they don't do that anymore. They just put them in now, no more sponge baths. So both of my children have been having tub baths since they were a day old.

Sponge baths are required at first. Bathing in a tub of water should wait until the baby's umbilical cord falls off, and a baby boy's circumcision heals, to prevent infection.

You could start the Day your baby was born, you don't have to wait till the cord falls off I took my children right in the bath tub with me ... and just so you know some mothers have there babies in a water berthing rooms at children's hospital in Vancouver BC they have done this for over 20 years...my last baby loves the water I gave him his first shower with me when he was 1 month old he went crazy...now if you say the words (going in the water ) you better be ready to put him in the bathtub to play in the water right away.

Congrats on the new little one!
You can put her all the way in the water after the cord falls off. However, I used the baby tub until my kids could sit up on their own. It's hard to hold a slippery baby and lean over the big tub.

Congrats on your new baby! Since babies sleep so much during the first period of their lives they don't really need a full bath until they're six weeks. A sponge bath should do just fine until then. Of course, alot depends on the weather and your baby. If it's hot and she sweats alot, or if she's the kind of baby that spits up alot, then she might need baths sooner and more frequently.

Once your baby's umbilical cord has fallen off and the stump is healed, you can give your baby a tub bath.
