If the drive is configured correctly, it shoudl be "found" by the operating system and given a drive letter. After that, it's a simply matter of cut and paste.

Cut the file from where it sits, and paste it into the folder on the external hard drive.

External hard drives are usually connected via a USB port these days so they are treated by Windows as any other USB device. Once you plug it in it should appear in the "My Computer" folder. The you can save things or drag and drop just like you would with any other drive.

plug it in?...drag and drop....that's how mine works...it is recognized as a "USB MASS STORAGE DEVICE" and sometimes when transferring it says "UNSAFE REMOVAL OF DEVICE!".
