Interesting question--

I'm not entirely sure, but I believe so. Typically, they'd be castrated, and not used for breeding. In ancient times, strength was valued in men, not necessarily beauty (although both was preferred). So they were mostly there for the enjoyment of the upper classes-- exempli gratia: in the film, Alexander, which I believe is based on the life of Alexander the Great of Macedonia , there is a eunuch harem boy who dances in front of Alexander. After he finishes dancing, Alexander announces that that boy is the one he'll take with him (presumably to bed).

Good question - and I do not know the answer. I would imagine that it is greatly possible that there were gay male harems, but I have not been able to find anything to verify that.

Historically, in areas where homosexuality was embedded in the culture, such as Ancient Greece, Ancient Rome, parts of Melanesia, Renaissance Italy, and pre-modern Japan, homosexual relationships were engaged in by a majority of the male population. So it is completely conceivable that harems of gay men may have existed in these cultures as well.

there is a possibility that it happened.
i say this because in those days people did things that made them happy. it is only recent times that labels have been given to establish the 'other'. basically, if you medicalise something then you can critique it...science was used as a way to jusitify wrong doing: women had there clitorises chopped off, if they did not comform to the ideals of a perfect wife for example.
my lecturer would be so proud of me if she read this. go studs.

In Greek ideas it was said that there *were* boys for prositution, I won't bore you with the details though!

And some women would want thier child to be butiful would have sex with one of these boys (if they weren't casutrated though! to keep youthfulness!) to ensure the attractive ness of the child.
