Depending on where you live there are no step by step procedures. After the first frost the crabgrass will turn brown and die. Crabgrass comes in in the summer in barespots. After the first frost, aerate your lawn and overseed the area's with crabgrass. Good luck.

If you have it in a concentrated area, dig it out and throw it out....then seed thickly
if you have it in spots all over you can try scott's crabgrass fertilizer, you are supposed to do it in the spring, but if you didnt you can still do it........
by the way, i put the scots anti crab grass in the front, and not in the back...and guess where i have crabgrass? IN THE BACK!

Mow high and often. Water deep and infrequently. Proper lawn maintenance will keep out weeds, it just takes patience.

Best way is not to let it sprout in the first place.
(Remind you of stock advice: buy low and sell when it goes up,
if it doesn't go up, don't buy?)
Actually don't panic, next spring be sure to apply a pre-emergent in March so it won't sprout next year. Check out you local garden stores to find out exactly what and when to apply in your specific area.

it really depends on what type of grass you have. I have st. Augustine and most weed killers will kill my grass to so you should first identify your grass type and go from there
