Comedians make money from exposing the class system, think of Vicky Pollard, for instance.
I think that there are a number of classes in British society, but the main division is between those who work, and those who don't work. I get annoyed with those who don't work for a living. People who scrounge off the state, or steal. People who think they can have all the rights in the world, without any of the responsibilities.
That's what I think anyway.
Oh, and my benefit scrounging ex husband who has never worked an honest day in his life has something to do with it!

Basically it is all in the head. Indoctrination. Barriers are being broken, but in some places snobbery exists as much as it ever did. Especially in the so-called "middle classes" . You can go to anybody's party if they invite you! They will only invite you if they know and like you, right? So you have to get the chance to meet all kinds of people outside your own turf, and mingle with an open mind. Often reverse snobbery is the worst thing. When someone who thinks they are of a lower class won't even talk to someone with a title as their equal. It is all in the mind. This isn't India with those nasty caste systems. People have to let go of prejudice and realize that there are problems everywhere - everyone has hard times. But everyone matters and is important. There will always be cruel and kind people and stupid or clever ones - they are not limited to any particular class.
And why this day and age? There have been many days and ages when we all could have died at any time ... life is a spiral; not linear. Think of the Ice Age; the plague in Europe, all those wars; politically motivated black acts. This is not a special age. Everything happens for a reason.

It shouldn't mean anything, but to a large proportion of people it does. And it needs to be pointed out that a lot of them are lower rather than higher up the social scale. I've never had anyone upper class being obviously snobbish to me, but I have experienced plenty of abuse from people who decided that because I was middle class (and despite having distinctly working class friends), I must therefore look down on them and be a snob. I call this inverse snobbery, and people who behave like this deserve to be looked down on. You shouldn't be judged on your accent, just by your behaviour.

Classes really are actively important to many types of people, in some indian cultures as well as english.
It doesn't mean a thing to me, we all arrived in the same and will leave the same, treat others as you would want to be treated

Everyone could always die at any time. Class lately is more educated vs educated. Its easier to advance.
There are still some royals who are extra snooty and you can't date or go to their parties but they are dying out.

Class will dictate people's access to support if anything does go wrong.
Most people here can't even afford Healthcare and the NHS doesn't help them unless they're prepared to wait Years.
