Sometimes betta likes to sleep above water if your water level is high as they used to breathe with their mouth, some will sleep on the bottom if you keep them in a container or somewhere if the water level is low. If you said that she is swollen or something, she may suffer from constipation or bloated stomach. Try not to feed her for two to three days and see if she got any better, Because their stomach is quite small and their digestion is attually not very good. Somemore they like to peck on anythings that can be eaten, and also some flakes and pellet may "expand" when contact to water.

Either pregnant or constipated big time.

Either way though, keep them seperated because he will eat her stomach. I had a betta that died about a year ago. It got really swollen (but I had seen it having sex multiple times with the other betta). I don't know why it died. It never gave birth... it just all the sudden died so I assumed it was just majorly constipated.

i have two bettas too. but both are males. whenever i think that there's something wrong with them i refer to this website: http://www.bettatalk.com/betta_diseases.htm it's really good and they've helped me realise what's good for my fish.
