Maybe it didn't fall but was gently lowered down by a couple of bears

ah yes the great question as to whether perceptions can exist without a perceiver present. There is no way to prove this knundrum either way. However this is the very same type of question i have been thinking about a lot lately. The ramafications of reaching a conclustion that perceptions can exist independently of a preceiver (i.e. the tree actually makes a sound) can go a long way to answering many other questions in the realm of philosophy, obviously metaphysics but i also believe it can go a LONG way in furthering the free-will debate.

I tend to think that the self exists only as a nonphysical perceiver, that is constantly changing with the perceptions that it perceives. (wow, thats a tounge-twister), and therefore, the question arises as to whether or not our minds actually create the perceptions that we "sense", or whether the perceptions can exist independent of the perceiever. If the perceptions exist independently then we must question how the perceptions come to be perceived, i.e. do we have control (freedom to choose) which perceptions are actually perceived.

I agree with some people. You would know that no matter what happened to a tree to make it fall there would be noise or some sort of sound. no matter how loud or how quiet, there would be a noise or sound. and by the way, there is a scientific way to gather evidence for one event so you can gather enough information to prove anything even if it is most unlikely. I should know, my mom works in the art and science building.

Of course it does!OK well,if a huge tree fell in the forest ,no matter how it fail,it would make noise because of it mass.Even if it feel in water .The only way it wont make noise is if it falls on a large spread of sponge.

Yes, there is an obvious noise. Even if there is no one to hear the bang, there is a sound generated. Laws of physics apply.

I know how you could prove it put a whole bunch of video cames all over the forrest and wait untill one falls. Technically no ones around to hear it so...

If a tree fell and no one was ever there to see it....did it actually fall?

As far the sound of a tree falling....it depends on whether a woman was there to tell me it made a sound!

It will make sound waves, but noise is the perception of the mind. Further, one person's music is another person's noise, so maybe it will only make beautiful music.

Animals and birds would hear it.
if no living creature was near, no "sound" would be "heard". Only "airwaves" would be produced.

Only ear drums of living creatures can convert "airwaves" to sound, "hearing".

Same principle applies to a musical instruments.
