88 miles is a long way away! I've never been to Chicago, but I can tell you about Boston. It's a great city - kinda small, so you can walk just about anywhere, or take the T if you'd prefer (that's our subway system). But if you're living in or near Bridgewater, you might not make it into Boston very often. I live about 30 miles west of Boston, and folks around here don't go into Boston much, unless they're going there for a specific event. It's just too far away, and there's plenty of stuff to do around here. (I know in other parts of the country 30 miles is right next door, but here it's like a whole other country.)
New York is near-by? 4.5 hours away is not close in my book!

Boston, in this case. At least you will be close enough to other East Coast cities that you can travel around a bit. Rockford, Illinois is like the armpit of America. It's not anywhere near Chicago (in reality, it would take you well over 2 hours to get to Chi-town from Rockford)...and for that matter, it's not near anything else. It's farm country. Ick.

I love Boston more than anything, and I have also visited Chicago, but I guess it's different when one of the cities is your home. So Boston, hands down.

I love both cities. They seem to have the same amount of things to do; but I'd go with Boston for the hsitory. I'm an American Revolution nut.

Chicago, despite the fact that Rockford isn't any Chicago. do not know a lot approximately Rockford despite the fact that i'm confident you may like the midwest extra suited than the east coast. ..oh yea Rockford is amazingly on the brink of the Wisconsin Dells which i'm confident you may appreciate.

Boston's a pretty cool place to live. You're within good distance of forests, mountains, city, country and ocean. Good variety, good shopping, good food, good people ...etc
Come on up here and hang out with us on the Atlantic!!
P.S. We're really close to Vermont and their maple syrup is the BEST. We got impressive breakfasts up here
