I would call the business bureau of the region (or have someone who speaks Chinese do so) where the supplier is located and ask them to pull up the supplier's contact info. If it's a major city like Shenzhen, Zhuhai, BJ, Shanghai, they will have it (assuming they are legitimate). But it also depends on your definition of legitimate....

it's very difficult to check whether a company is legitimate or not in China.. it's such a huge country and there are some unregistered companies who are waiting to take even a few hundreds and disappear.. so when you want to deal with the companies in china, you have to be extremely careful.. what you could do is you can request for company registration number and could check with chinese registration dept.. that will take a long time of cos.. if not the best way is to go down to take a look around at their shop or whatever and see whether they are in for real or just a name only..

Go to trade shows, if a suppliers spend a lot on a large stand chances are they will send you what you have ordered.

PS I have 100 suppliers spread across asia they have all sent the jewellery promised.

Go to China and see for yourself. Whilst you're at it, meet many suppliers.
