do u mean he's biting u or biting his cage-chewing on bars? is he a syrian or dwarf? how old? some hamsters are cage aggressive and will bite when inside their cage but are fine outside the cage. u can get them out with gloves or put their hamster ball up to the cage door and they will climb in. u can then safely sit on a couch and let him climb out of the ball & onto your lap. if u r waking him up then it's likely he'll bite no matter what-wouldnt u be mad if someone woke u? make sure your hands are clean-no food smell. how long have u had him? some of them need time to get used to u, especially if they were never handled or worse-mishandled. in that case it takes patience and time for them to learn to trust u.

make sure you don't have any food smell on your hands. Move really slowly and let them know you're there and not just grab them out of the cage. If you handle them daily they'll get to trusting you and won't bite anymore. We have 2 and one bit all the time after we adopted it and now they're both a joy to have.

i got a male hamster who took out chunks of finger at first. but i won him over with food. every time my hand went in the cage it had a tiny bit of good stuff: swiss cheese bit, crust of brown bread, little bit of carrot, yogurt bits from pet store. i moved slowly and talked low so he associated my hand and voice with treats he normally wouldn't have in his food bowl. now he likes me, lets me hold him and all...they can't see well so i speak before i put in my hand to pick him up so he knows it's me, then he relaxes. be patient. he will come around. just be gentle.

Just have to keep handling the little critter. Sooner or later it will know that you will not harm it.
