Does the US have bases there too?

The Aussies can take care of themselves. It would take a pretty big navy or long range air force to give them serious problems.

In the Pacific, probably only China has enough military to take them on. Of course, the US and Britain would be there to back the Aussies if needed.

Australia has a good military all by itself, and the US Pacific Fleet stops in AU often.
