"Stay cool, be cool"
I have found that "manners" at that age is a matter of "staying cool" when someone pushes your buttons. My 4th grade class had some great discussions on how to recognize their hot buttons and other people's buttons and how to respect buttons.
They developed a vocabulary, so if someone said "You're on my button", that meant "Hey, this is really upsetting me, please back off". Their own internal "code" (I didn't and couldn't have imposed it on them) was to back off if someone said this.
