I am going to get another sportbike soon and i want to get a v-twin. I was looking at the suzuke tl1000 but i heard about some issues that they have. I was also looking at the honda rc51. im not trying to spend that much money maybe 5000 for a used bike, any suggestions?? also i don't like "naked bikes" or buels.

You're pretty limited as there aren't too many true v-twin sportbikes out there, especially for $5000. The TL1000 is a great bike with tons of raw torque. The ride is less refined than the RC51, but it's still loads of fun and probably cheaper than what you can find an RC for. Just make sure if you get a TL, the 97-98 models had fuel injection issues and many of the TLs in general have rear suspension problems. Make sure to check that the rear shock mount isn't cracked. The RC is an awesome bike, and I think a better overall bike than the TL. The bike is heavy however and also a gas guzzler compared to the TL. It is more reliable though, as all things Honda usually are, and the major maintanence schedule intervals aren't as close.

The only other real v-twin sportbikes out there to consider would be a Ducati 748/916/996/998. You may be able to find an older one for around that price, but it'll be hard. The Aprilia Mille is another really cool v-twin sportbike, but they're probably more than you want to spend. Both the Italian bikes require more care than the Japanese ones though, so unless you like to wrench, they may not be the bike for you.

In the end, I guess my vote would be for the RC-51. Can't beat the bike that beat Ducati at it's own game.

I owned a TL1000s a couple of seasons two years back, mine had very low mileage and had been stored for two years before sold (02 model sold in 04).. Can`t really comment on reliability much because the low mileage except that the rear shock mount was broken. Had to replace the rear shock with a bitubo from http://www.traxxion.com/ (Excellent service by the way). Wasn`t really that expensive but pretty much impossible to mount you read the manual. I didn`t recieve one so i tried following step by step instructions found in various forums with no luck and a lot of grief:) Make sure you get Bitubos instructions for mounting on the TL if you do this, or you could PM me on facebook.. Aside from this problem i loved my TL very much..

ducatti 996 one of the best built alittle bit of $ , but not as overpriced as the name "harley davidson" (for the $ of 1 hd you can buy 3 honda goldwings . my personal opinion honda runs better and lasts longer, but love the way the duc rides and sounds)

You could get something like an sv650 and buy aftermarket side fairings, or from suzuki (but more expensive). As an alternative.
