Im having problems with my current HD that my current version on XP Home is installed on.
I have a new HD in a box.
I went to Compaq site and saw they offered a recovery disc for my coputer XP service pack 2 for $15.
My main thing I was going to do is basically burn my important files on a disc, and then trash the old troublesome Hard Drive and get the recovery CD and Recover my system to the new Hard Drive.
Will that work?
Better yet, does everyone understand what Im trying to do?
I may have a worm or something, dont know why the hard drive is acting up, but I dont want to connect the new hard drive up when the old one is in there at the same time.

if the HD is not making any noise still good, however if you want to get a new one there are 100gig for $80 in frys and compusa you will need the recovery disc (5). if you dont want to use the discs you can use the compaq full recovery sistem it takes long .whatever you do you will loose all your files.and your comp will be like new.

No it is not going to do what you want it too. The Recovery CD is a CD that will reformat your harddrive, and reinstall the same OS that the old harddrive has on it... It does not Recover Data. There are a couple of options you have. 1. Remove the old drive, Install and Use the new one, then use data recovery software to get your data back, 2. Ditch the old and count your losses, if it has a worm or virus, and you don't know what your doing you can infect the new drive, or take it to a shop and let a pro do it.... Sounds like you are wanting to do well, but you can end up with more trouble, and more money spent, and back to square one AGAIN............IF their is a active virus or worm on the old drive, then download Microsoft's Malicious Remover Program. It may find it and remove it... The RECOVERY CD WILL NOT SAVE YOUR DATA, ..............Good Luck

The recovery CD will wipe out your hard drive and make it like new again and that is what you want.

However, if you suspect a worm it could be hiding in your system registry like the sasser worm and the recovery CD won't clean it, you'll need a new partition for that.
