I'll have a group of about 20 high school students. Some of them know each other, but there will be several new kids. I've got 15 minutes, so I'm looking for some short games, especially some that involve learning names.

That would be Don't break the ice of course! You know the kids game with little hammers and you tap the ice around the ice skating bear and try not to knock him in! WOOO HOOO!!!! Fun for all!

first off, when everyone enters the room give them a nametag that has somebody elses name on it, and then they have to find that person and give them their name tag....

then you get a roll of toilet paper and pass it around (be very vauge with how many squares they take) and for each square they take they have to tell the group something about themselves

or if you dont want to do that, get two chairs and put them on opposite side of the rooms. Now you get two things like a quilt, black butcher paper, a thick curtain, blanket etc.. and you seperate everyone in to two groups, and sit one person down (behind the curtain) from each group and count to three, drop the curtain, and the people in the chair have to say the other person's name before the other one has a chance to. the person who's name was said goes to the other side of the room and you continue until everyone is on the same side

if you need something else just search for icebreakers on the internet

YES! I agree with cutie_03! That is the best, time them regarding what they write down....only give em a minute or two but his is by far the best ice breaker of all of the ones I have been a part of! Just make sure you given silly or crazy or outrageous examples for the "clue" so they take your lead and thus ensuring laughter which is the ULTIMATE icebreaker! Good luck!

it's called "who am I?"
Everyone writes down one fact about themselves that nobody else would
know. (Don't include names.) All facts are put in a hat. One person reads the facts one at a time. Everyone tries to guess who it is. For example, the facts could be something like: "I was born in my parents car." or "I was adopted." It is a fun way to get to know each other.

Visit the website listed under my source for other ice breaker games.

hmmm this is probably not what you wanted to hear but I hope it helps. I run an anger management group and sometimes I play games to break the ice.. I've played pictionary and hangman with them and put them into teams.
