bumpercar is right. Hendrix suffered an overdose, but when he was placed in the ambulance, he was placed in a position which caused him to choke on his own vomit. Accidental asphyxiation is I believe the listed cause of death, but there are lots of conspiracy theories.

I believe he threw up in his sleep and choked to death. Also drugs may have been involved. Back in the 60's and early 70's uppers and downers were frequently mixed resulting in a premature death. As far as I am concerned prescription drugs used in an uncontrolled environment is a fatal flaw in our system. In many cases the drug user is the doctor. Jimi Hendrix died way to soon, his was one of the best at his profession with some very creative instincts.

Hendrix died September 18, 1970. The cause of death noted on the coroner's report was inhalation of vomit after barbiturate intoxication. In 1993, the investigation into Hendrix's death was reopened by Scotland Yard, but when no new evidence was unearthed, the matter was dropped.

no one knows for sure, the police didnt do a good job of investigating.....here are some of the theories:
-some say he just overdosed
-some say he drowned his he vomit
-some think his girlfriend played a key role
-some say homicide
-and a depressing poem written by jimi suggests suicide
so i am sorry, there is no exact answer, but i belive it was the drugs and fame that killed him....

He aspirated vomit into his lungs while asleep. He had spent the night with his German girlfriend, Monika Dannemann, and likely died in bed after drinking wine and taking nine Vesperax sleeping pills, then asphyxiating on his own vomit.
