I've heard that swimming in the ocean is limited due to strong currents. Anyone know if this is true? How strong are they? Thanks.

You heard right. The currents are quite strong in Cabo - depending on the time of year, of course. Most of the main beaches at the resorts have warnings posted. Try Santa Maria or Chileno for snorkling/swimming - both are popular swimming places for the locals/tourists. Zippers is a good beach for surfing. Medano beach is the main one for tourists and isn't too bad as it is close to the marina. Access is the problem at Palmilla but the locals still go there. I wouldn't even attempt swimming on the pacific side.

The Pacific Ocean currents are very strong and the beaches on that side are totally unswimmable. Medano Beach (on the Sea of Cortez side) is the only swimmable beach in Cabo. There are many resorts along this beach. But even here the red flag is up a good portion of the time. There are a few further north of town. You'll need a car to reach them. Chileno is good for snorkeling. Locals frequent this beach. Even though it is unswimmable, check out Solmar Beach (on the Pacific). The rock formations and waves are awesome!

They are very strong facing the open Pacific (west side). Straight south at the end they are calm and good for swimming. This area is covered with hotels, places to eat and bars.
