my brother and his friend down loaded a bunch of stuff and I deleted all of what I could find. but how do you get rid of it forever? I know that a geek could find it and bring it back.

(1) delete everything you can find....

(2) overwrite and fill the ENTIRE disk (hard drive) ... I personally use graphics. Photos and CGI images that I find on the internet. (right click on picture, save as... )

This will cover magnetic residual images left by your deleating

(3) reformat the disk using the full destructive formatting, not the restore to earlier point ...

Now you have a fresh disk

IF YOU WANT to delete what your brother put on, but keep other stuff, erase only the data you want to hide, keeping what you want to keep. Execute steps 1 and 2, then, do a different step three --- delete all the pictures you just added.

The result is -- all deleted files yours, his, others, but all deleted files AND all empty unused disk space just got filled with picture images. Areas with legitimate files remain as created. All the stuff you want to hide just got overwritten.

Delete the pictures you just created and the disk will be ready for new files to overwrite the pictures.....

The only true way that you can remove it all, "For Good" is to reformat your harddrive, and reinstall Windows XP. If not, Yes, I could retrieve alot of information off of your harddrive that would probably blow your mind, things you thought were long gone... When you delete things it only deletes the part that points to the file or app or program, it remains on the harddrive until enough deleting of other things overwrite it.... Good Luck

Try XL Delete:

When you delete a file and empty the Recycle Bin, the file is in fact still on your hard drive. Windows marks the area where the file is on the hard drive as over-writable so it can reuse the space when necessary. This allows special data-recovery software to actually undelete the file and view all its original contents.
