Not just you , but a lot of people believe it is happening
Global warming is the observed increase in the average temperature of the Earth's atmosphere and oceans in recent decades.

The Earth's average near-surface atmospheric temperature rose 0.6 ± 0.2 °Celsius (1.1 ± 0.4 °Fahrenheit) in the 20th century. The prevailing scientific opinion on climate change is that "most of the warming observed over the last 50 years is attributable to human activities" [1].

The increased amounts of carbon dioxide (CO2) and other greenhouse gases (GHGs) are the primary causes of the human-induced component of warming. They are released by the burning of fossil fuels, land clearing and agriculture, etc. and lead to an increase in the greenhouse effect.

An increase in global temperatures can in turn cause other changes, including a rising sea level and changes in the amount and pattern of precipitation. These changes may increase the frequency and intensity of extreme weather events, such as floods, droughts, heat waves, hurricanes, and tornados. Other consequences include higher or lower agricultural yields, glacier retreat, reduced summer streamflows, species extinctions and increases in the ranges of disease vectors. Warming is expected to affect the number and magnitude of these events; however, it is difficult to connect particular events to global warming. Although most studies focus on the period up to 2100, warming (and sea level rise due to thermal expansion) is expected to continue past then, since CO2 has a long average atmospheric lifetime .

But not everyone believes it. Some believes that the earth has climate cycles and we are just begining a different cycle

All those people who responded, "go do your research, we are not in global warming" - try doing some research yourselves! To the one who responded with the example of the Dust Bowl of the 1930's, what does that have to do with the question?

The fact is, the Earth is undergoing global warming due to the Greenhouse effect. The reason is easy, if you understand what the Greenhouse effect is. Here is an overview.

The Earth is heated by the warmth of the sun. That's obvious. But just that heat isn't enough for liquid water to exist on the Earth's surface. The only reason that we have liquid water is because the Earth has an atmosphere (one reason why it's been difficult to find liquid water elsewhere - distance from the sun and lack of atmosphere). The atmosphere essentially absorbs the heat that is "bounced" off the Earth and releases it back at the Earth, so to speak. In other words, the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere traps some of the heat, raising the surface temperature of the Earth a few degrees - just enough that the temperature is above 0 degrees celsius.

Now, the carbon dioxide undergoes a cycle - it falls to the ground in rain, seeps into the Earth, becomes limestone, gets pushed to the edge of a tectonic plate, and spews back into the atmosphere through volcanoes - but the cycle itself is one that lasts several million years, so the carbon dioxide doesn't fluctuate much by itself.

The problem? Introduce humans. Every day, we are artificially adding more and more carbon dioxide to the atmosphere - e.g. cars, factories, etc. The more the carbon dioxide, the more heat is trapped by the atmosphere. The more heat, the warmer the surface temperature of the Earth. Thus, we are in global warming because of the world's gasoline addiction.

Are we in a period of time when there are abnormal weather conditions? Yes. Does that mean that it would be different without the pollutants that we put into the environment? No.

Have you done much history work? I am guessing not or you would recall the great dust bowl of the 1930's. This period of drought lasted for nearly a decade, but there was no blame on our activities. The Earth has cycles of weather conditions and despite what certain scientists and liberal politicians may claim there is no solid proof that the current conditions are due to our living conditions. Think of this as a great example, ever since Darwin (and before actually) there have been those who believed in the possibility of evolution. However, with all the time that science has had to prove their claims they still have come to no solid evidence. These are theories and will remain such.

Yes, I agree that we are in a period of NATURAL global warming.
There are warming and cooling cycles in nature and this is one of the first type.
I do not think that global warming is significantly affected by humans and I do definitely not believe in the so-called green house effect, at least not in the scale as is commonly suggested.

Interesting what you believe. Perhaps to begin with some facts.

And no, we are not experiencing global warming.

Learn to do some original research people and quit repeating what other people tell you they heard. Begin with statistics, learn a little about historical weather patterns and then review some reliable scientific data of actual temperatures.

I think there is sufficient amount of evidence to confirm the 'global warming'. The question at hand is now, when, rate and solution?

I do believe that we are not doing ourselves any favors with all the pollutants and the effects this might cause....but on the other end of the spectrum, you have those that believe this is just the natural course of things. Everything has a cycle...and just as we are in the midst of a heavy hurricane cycle, we are also in a cycle of warming.

Whether this is entirely true, I guess remains to be seen.

No, I refuse to open my eyes or stick my head out of the house - signed: conservative

PS: One wonders where the conservatives think the pollution, emissions and gases spewed go!?!?!
