Why did the Lone Ranger chose to wear a mask?

because the ranger who he once was was dead to everyone else. if he showed his true form everyone would know him. (and i think he had a family)

If he didn't wear a mask then they wouldn't have been able to say:

Who WAS that masked man?

He didn't want anyone to know who he was, that's why he wore it.
