See, my bottom string of my Bass (the thinnest one) isnt as low as I want it to be, it is quite high pitched. I want it to be as low as Mike Dirnts (fender precision) in Longview. Also, it is a "beginner" brand (Legend Pack). So I was wondering if I could 'make it sound like' Dirnts bass by just replacing the pickups with the same pickups on the fender precision and getting a better amplifier...

The strings, the pick ups, and the quality of the amp all go into making a bass sound good. There are different quality levels of all of these. And yes you can change the sound of a bass by replacing the pick ups.

All of the following contribute to the tone and quality of the sound from both bass and regular guitars (in no particular order)
1. Body materials
2. Strings
3. Amp
4. Pre-amp (if you use one)
5. tone control settings
6. Pickups
7. Bridge and nut materials
8. Action (distance from fretboard to strings)

I hope this helps. If you make any of the above better, your sound will be better, too.

Wood. Big difference. I used to think it was purely electronics - pickups, amp, etc - but it's the wood that really gives you the sound.

The most expensive instruments sound the best because they use the highest quality wood.

Trust me, I've tried to put premium electronics in mid-range basses, high quality amps, the works. It improved the sound slightly, but try a high-range instrument and you'll hear the difference.

Have to spend the money to get the best.
