Fake it till you make it. I am terribly shy so i know where you're coming from. This is a chance to break away from some of that shyness. Pretend you're ok with starting up conversation with people you don't know. They won't know you're the shy kid.
Just be sure to smile a lot and people will probably talk to you. If it's a smaller school, people will even recognize that you're new and seek you out to talk to.

try to find a group to hang out with. Listen to what other people are talking about and add in if you can. Whenever I go somewhere new, i'll find a group of people and go stand by them and join their conversation. Look for groups that don't have their arms crossed or look mean. Look for nice open people.

dont be too shy..just join any of your club or any sports in your school..by joining the clubs, from there you will meet new friends..try to talk with at least one of the club members..then he will introduce you to his friends..and you can also makes friend with his friends..
