I've been around horses my whole life, riding since i was two, and i can deal with english or western so i don't think it matters where i live. but maybe some of you have had the same problem. i know some bases have stables but where i'm from the horses have fields to graze and be free in all day. and i would just like to know if it would be a great deal of money for the stable and if horses get stressed out from being held in stables for long periods of time. of course i would ride every day possible and let him graze. but is it worth it to the horse??

i think that it would be a great idea. having a hubby in the military can be lonley, and hard on you emotionaly, and you need something to focus on other than him being away. i have 3 horses that have been stalled for a month now, (tring to tame them), and i get them out everyday and lunge them and groom them, and they seem really happy. i would recommend doing a 2 week trial run before buying ANY horse to see if you are compatible. yes, he maybe a bit spirited when you get him out, i would just lunge him good before riding. stalled horses are easier to care for, because your more hands on all the time. boarding fees should include feed and hay, and if you help muck stalls and work a few horses, they may give you a discounted rate. i board horses for other people for 400.00 a month, includes hay, feed, water, lunging.....if someone came and helped, i would definately give them a bit of a discount. hope i've been of help.

The stable I keep my horse in has several horses who are either owned by Air Force members or their spouces. I have never heard one of them say they have had a hard time keeping their animal. Does your current base have a stable? If so go talk to some of the people who have horses their and see what they have to say about it. If your base doesn't have a stable try just getting in contact with some members who are owners and talk to them.

i'm glad your thinking of the horse. maybe try leasing a horse before you buy him so you can tell if he doesn't mind being stalled for long periods of time. oh and be carefull when riding him cause he will have built up energy. also if you want try to find a cheap boarding stable with a pasture near by if you can't keep him on your property.

Some Air Force bases have stables on the base and you pay a nominal fee and help out in the stables. So yes you can.
