This really sounds like Israel leading the world community to fight their battles for them. First they bomb the hell out of Lebanon trying to get Hezbollah to stop shelling them. Since that didn't seem to work now they want 30 000 UN troops to take on the battle for them. Sounds like Hezbollah was winning and now Israel is crying to the UN for added protection. When is the world community going to mind their own business and let Israel fight their own battles?

Resolution 1559

That is the problem! The UN needs to stop sticking its nose in places that it does not undrrstand! LET Isreal fight her own battles... stop whining about the "civilian casualties" and maybe say something about the human shield use.. but better yet, just shut the f--k up! If Israel trully used "exessive" force, this thing would have been over by now, and everybody would have been smiling in relief.

Your sequence is wrong.

First, the UN orders Lebanon to disarm Hezbollah (2000). That didn't happen.

Then Hezbollah kidnapped Israeli soldiers and attacked Israeli villages. Israel said stop. Hezbollah laughed and fired more rockets at Israeli cities. Israel struck back, with no Lebanese casualties. Israel then reminded Lebanon that it was supposed to deal with Hezbollah. Lebanon refused.

Israel then continued attacking Hezbollah, all the while offering to stop as soon as Hezbollah returned the Israeli hostages, and as soon as Lebanon got Hezbollah to stop firing rockets. Lebanon and Hezbollah both refused. The UN did nothing.

Israel finally had enough and invaded Lebanon to get at where Hezbollah was hiding. Suddenly Lebanon wanted to get involved. Israel made the same offer. They would stop as soon as Hezbollah returned the Israeli hostages, and as soon as Lebanon got Hezbollah to stop firing rockets. Lebanon and Hezbollah both refused. The UN did nothing.

Now that Hezbollah is hurting, suddenly the UN wants to get involved. Israel said, fine as soon as Hezbollah returned the Israeli hostages, and as soon as somebody got Hezbollah to stop firing rockets. Lebanon refused that offer and rejected any UN resolution that required Hezbollah to disarm.

That's where we are now. Israel wants Hezbollah to stop, and doesn't really care who stops them. If the UN wants to come in and disarm Hezbollah, Israel would be thrilled. Israel is not crazy. They don't want to be in a land-war with guerrilla terrorists. No sane country would (excluding the US, currently in two such engagements).

But if neither the UN nor Lebanon will permanently disarm Hezbollah, then Israel is going to finish what Hezbollah started. See the link below for why.

It seems to me that Israel would like to see the UN mind their own business....just like the USA would like, also.
