In my interpretation, Odysseus is more of a great trickster than anything else (although being a good trickster also requires being a good thinker). On several occasions throughout The Odyssey, Odysseus must use trickery rather than strength to defeat the obstacle placed in front of him simply because if he were to use strength (even though he is very strong), he would have absolutely no chance of winning. One example of this is when Odysseus and his men become trapped in the cave of the cyclops Polyphemus. The cyclops is much too superior strength wise (i.e. - he eats men for meals) for Odysseus to face in a fight. Therefore, Odysseus had to devise a plan to trick the cyclops by getting him drunk, poking his eye with a hot stick while he is sleeping, waiting until he removes the rock that blocks the entrance to get help (which the men were not strong enough to do on their own), and then sneaking out underneath the sheep that were running away. This, however, is only one example where Odysseus uses wit and trickery over strength.
However, I also think that Odysseus is a great thinker first (he would have to be very intelligent to come up with the ideas for his "escape tricks"), which makes him a great trickster, which in turn makes him a great warrior (because it is sometimes more useful in battle to have a smart, tricky plan, than it is to just run and hope you stab the dude).

Nice trying to get us to do your homework! But I loved reading the Odyssey and I always thought Odysseus was a strong warrior. There were many examples of that when he fought the cyclops and the battles he won. ON the other hand, he was in the grasp of the sirens and was content to be there frolicking in a sense. Not the smartest move for a warrior. On the other hand, he was a great thinker in outwitting opponents. I think he employed trickery as well. Anyway, you should have no problem finding resources. Try a few of the links below.

I'm going to have to go with trickster. He tricked his way out of a lot of risky situations including a cyclops and an angry witch.
