I work 04:00 am-12:30 pm. I'm so tired when I get off that I don't want to do anything but sleep. I go to bed between six and seven. Any suggestions for more energy?

I worked thrid shift for a while, and it does take its toll on you. My sleeping hours lasted from 8am until 3or 4pm. I would say the schedule you have planned for yourself is completely natural. I see an alternative that you could choose to go to bed as soon as you get home, and wake around 9pm. Otherwise, try to take a one hour nap when you get home in order to perk up. Then you may be able to delay your bedtime slightly. If you have been doing this job for a long time, then you may need to see your doctor if you are still having sleep difficulties. If you recently began this job, then it took my body about three full weeks to adjust to my sleep schedule. It also took about as many weeks to come off of this shift eventually. Consistency in your routine is key.

It depends on how long you've been working that shift.
If over a year, I'd say get another job.

If it's a fairly new shift, would it help to lie down for 20 min to an hour when you get home?
Make sure you are eating healthy and taking a vitamin and mineral suppliment. Darken your bedroom as much as you can.

Studies have shown that shift work ages you. Some people I have known have adapted well to shift work, others have never been able to adapt.

Good Luck

Shift work is really hard on the body, I know if you don't have any energy you are not going to feel like exercising, but it actully gives you more energy.
